What is Sugar?
Simply put, sugar is a white crystalline carbohydrate used as a sweetener and preservative.  Main source of sugar is the sugar cane.  However, not all sugars are white - see types of sugar below.

Carbohydrate is an essential structural component of living cells and source of energy for animals; includes simple sugars with small molecules as well as macromolecular substances; carbohydrates are classified according to the number of monosaccharide groups they contain.

OTHER MEANINGS OF THE WORD SUGAR.
The word sugar is used extensively in other circumstances other than the edible product. Consider the following phrases:

Residual Sugar - Sugar remaining in a wine after fermentation; The amount of sugar not converted to alcohol during fermentation that indicates a wines relative sweetness; The sweetness of a wine is defined by the level of residual sugar
(or RS) in the fermentation process.

Sugar Cane – This is the tall tropical southeast Asian grass having stout fibrous jointed stalks; This grass is a chief source of sugar.  Sugar canes are juicy canes whose sap is a source of molasses and commercial sugar; fresh canes are sometimes chewed for the juice.

Sugar Daddy – This is a popular nickname for a wealthy older man who gives a young person expensive gifts in return for friendship or intimacy; Significant age disparity in sexual relationships has been and remains a feature of couples in many cultures and societies.
